Saffron

Maison Alexis Lepers may be based in the Plaine de Versailles, but it's in the Khorasan region that the Lepers family have always grown saffron. The tradition of saffron cultivation is a link between the generations of the Lepers family, passing on the precise, traditional gestures of this demanding crop.

Growing our own saffron in the Khorasan region of north-eastern Persia enables us to work responsibly, ethically and sustainably. But also to ensure the consistent quality of our handcrafted saffron, from cultivation on site to packaging and processing in our own workshop in France. As a producer, short-line importer and processor, we have total control over our offer and our products.

The origin of our saffron

Maison Alexis Lepers is a saffron producer, since the Lepers family has been growing its own saffron for several generations.
Saffron fields are located in the cradle of saffron: in the Khorasan region of northeastern Persia.
At Khorasan: all the conditions are right to produce the best quality of this jewel of nature with its Neguine quality, identifiable by its long red filaments and exceptional fragrance. Crops are cultivated on a plateau at an altitude of 1,500 m. The wide temperature difference between winter and summer, and the isolated, pollution-free region, provide optimal conditions.

Our producers

In Khorasan, saffron is grown by entire villages. So when Maison Alexis Lepers was created, the founder naturally decided to set up a cooperative. This cooperative not only brings together all its neighboring producers, but also enables Maison Alexis Lepers to better remunerate them, since it shares its harvests equally with member producers. Optimal altitude and exposure make the SENOU lands an exceptional terroir dedicated exclusively to the cultivation of saffron. What's more, our growers apply all their know-how in cultivation, harvesting, pruning and drying to bring you saffron of exceptional quality.
